Partnering with Assifero and Fondazione Mondo Digitale to Bridge the Digital Divide
There is more time to apply for the Universal Civil Service 2026. With Decree No. 386/2026 of April 7, 2026, the Department for Youth Policies and Universal Civil Service has extended the deadline for submitting applications. The new deadline is April 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. The extension applies to the call for applications to select 65,964 volunteer workers to be deployed in projects in Italy and abroad. Among these is the project “Equity 5.0. Technology, Knowledge, and Participation Against Inequalities”, promoted by Assifero together with Fondazione Mondo Digitale, with 8 positions available in Rome.
Assifero, together with Fondazione Mondo Digitale, is participating in the selection of volunteer workers for the 2026 Universal Civil Service with the project Equità 5.0. Technology, Knowledge, and Participation Against Inequalities. This 12-month program will take place in Rome, at the headquarters on Via del Quadraro (Location Code 207905), with eight positions available. The project was launched with a clear objective: to reduce digital divides as a lever to strengthen rights, democratic participation, social cohesion, and intergenerational solidarity, ensuring equitable and secure access to the opportunities of the digital society, with particular attention to the most vulnerable or those at risk of exclusion.
What the volunteers will do
Volunteer staff will be involved in three main areas of intervention:
Digital inclusion and facilitation
- supporting citizens in accessing digital services (SPID, PagoPA, email, online services)
- mentoring in digital literacy programs
- community outreach and collaboration with schools, local authorities, and community centers
- monitoring and data collection to improve the impact of activities
Digital education and guidance in STEM disciplines
- Co-design and support for workshops on robotics, AI, coding, and cybersecurity
- Tutoring activities within training programs
- Promotion of inclusion and women’s empowerment in STEM
- Production of communication content and storytelling
Promotion of an inclusive and innovative educational offering
- Support for the management of the FMD Academy
- Use of immersive educational technologies and accessible tools
- Personalized tutoring to foster participants’ autonomy
- Monitoring of the equity and effectiveness of training programs
The position involves 12 months of work totaling 1,145 hours, spread over 5 days a week, with the possibility of on-site work and, in part, remote work as well.
Training and Skills
Volunteers will complete:
- 32 hours of general training
- a specific training program on digital education, FMD Academy management, open badges, micro-certifications, coding and robotics workshops, communication of inclusion projects, and impact assessment
A final mentoring program focused on entering the workforce is also provided, with activities on CVs, soft skills, and active job search.
At the end of the service, a specific certificate issued by a third-party organization is awarded.
Who Can Apply
Young people may apply:
- between the ages of 18 and 28 (28 years and 364 days as of the application submission date)
- Italian citizens, EU citizens, or non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy
- who have no criminal convictions and do not belong to military or police forces
You may submit only one application, for a single project and a single location.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted exclusively online via the DOL platform.
Deadline: April 16, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
To access the platform, you need SPID or CIE (for Italian citizens). EU or non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy can request dedicated credentials through the platform.
The monthly stipend is 519.47 euros.
