The Mathematician’s Sombrero

Today, the Phyrtual Innovation Gym hosts students from the Liceo scientifico Teresa Gullace in Rome for a special geometry lesson with Franco Ghione and Stefano Volpe. The students will explore the behaviour of triangles on a spherical service on a concrete model of a non-Euclidean pseudo-sphere.

The pseudo-sphere, which looks like a sombrero, the typical Mexican hat, was built in the Fab Lab by Maker Guglielmo Lisi.

Franco Ghione, Professor of Geometry at the University of Rome – Tor Vergata is the Director of the Centro interdipartimentale di ricerca e formazione permanente per l'insegnamento delle discipline scientifiche. Stefano Volpe, a professor at the Liceo Gullace, is on the Directive committee.
