Domotics for the Elderly

The Interconnessioni Tour, part of the “Digital for the 3@rd Age. Engagement of Young Elders” Programme, which began in Perugia with a Health Hackathon [see news: Health Hackathon Winners], was in Terni yesterday with PopUpMaker for citizens, a “style maker” event. [see news: Life Quality].

Maker Marco Calvani presented a system of Arduino-controlled automatic doors for elders with motor problems, while Andrea Olivi designed a centralised hydroponic greenhouse. Maker Alessandro Fama demonstrated a bracelet and anklet that eliminate the electromagnetic waves provoked by smartphones and Carla Santini developed a wheel buggy 2.0 to help grandparents push their grandchildren uphill.

"I’m pleasantly impressed by the creativity. These young men and women are full of ideas,” commented Ambra Ciarapica, Regional ICT Director at the end of PopUp Makers. "Their energy must be guided and exploited.”

PopUp Maker also featured the particiaption of the Associazione nazionale centri sociali, comitati anziani e orti (National Association of Social Centres, Elderly Centres and Vegetable Gardens). Rosy D'Elia interviewed Mara Lorenzini.

Today, the appointment is with the Jam Session in Spoleto on "Culture, Leisure Time and Participation” with the coloured bricks of the Lego Serious Play Methodology. The local community will experiment with the shared design of services for the elderly. The session will be coordinated by Cecilia Stajano, Lego® Serious Play® Trained LSP Facilitator, community manager and School Innovation Coordinator for the Fondazione Mondo Digitale [see news: Designing Services].
