The Civita Castellana "Crocobot"

DSCN0460.jpg

The home page of the school website displays a quotation attributed to Leonardo da Vinci: “Once you have learnt how to fly, you will walk looking at the sky, because that’s where you were and where you’d like to return.” The students from the Midossi school in Civita Castellana (Province of Viterbo) do not seem worried by the new challenges that awaits them. And their goals are increasingly ambitious.

They have participated in the Grandparents on the Internet Project and during the course of Social Media Week, the school tutors served as Digital Angels at the Internet point in the Galleria Sordi. In the meantime, their classmates have been finishing off two robots that will be showcased in the RomeCup 2011 exhibition area: a humanoid robot and a crocodile robot.   The students are moving quickly. Last year, they were at the International City of Rome Robotics Trophy as mere visitors, where the soccer robots fascinated them. This year, they already have a few prototypes to exhibit. And next year, they will participate in a couple of competitions.

Anna Lain met coordinator Patrizia Stilo and her students at the Galleria Sordi in Rome during Social Media Week (7-11 February 2011).
