Coding Girls on Tour

The educational relay of Coding Girls, the project promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the American Embassy in Italy in collaboration with Microsoft, kicks off with three stops in Milan, Naples and Rome. The tour begins on Monday, November 14 in Milan.

Just a few hours to transmit passion and enthusiasm for scientific subjects to over one thousand young women. This is the challenge accepted by 60 peers from Milan, Naples and Rome, who decided to participate in the first Coding Summer School for Women. The Coding Girls have continued to work and train to create a true “educational movement” involving other young women as junior tutors.

This extraordinary multiplier effect is also fed by 30 teachers from 12 schools who coordinate this educational movement and the hackathons in three Italian cities: Milan, Naples and Rome.

The educational relay is headed by American Coach Emily Thomforde, Code Educator and Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics (STEAM) Specialist, with the help of five senior coaches from the Fondazione Mondo Digitale Phyrtual Innovation Gym: Manuela Benedetti, Lara Forgione, Giorgia Di Tommaso, Cecilia Lalatta Costerbosa and Valentina Gelsomini.

The tour begins next Monday, November 14 (9 am) at the IIS Falcone Righi School in Corsico Milanese. The coding session continues in the afternoon at the Lodi Liceo Gandini-Verri. The following day, the relay continues in two schools in Milan: IIS Bertarelli–Ferraris and the Liceo Marconi. On Wednesday, November 16 (9 am – 6 pm), the final hackathon will involve all participants from Milan. The following week the educational marathon will stop in Naples, with the same formula, and then move on to Rome (November 21).

Overcoming gender stereotypes, attracting women to coding, allowing them to experiment with the active use of technology, proposing new positive models and advancing towards gender equality on the job market. These are the objectives of Programme Coding Girls, promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the American Embassy in Italy in collaboration with Microsoft.

The third edition of the project includes a range of activities: summer school, intensive tours with the American coach, hackathons, meetings with experts, constant training for new tutors.
